Here is a description of the most famous Jeju beaches having official names (Jeju has plenty of unknown and wild beaches). These beaches officially are open (life guards watch that no one swims out of the buoy area) from the end of June to the end of August - the period of Korean vacation. The water on the Southern beaches is warm from May to October.

Jungmun Beach - located near hotel area of Jungmun, can be reached from Pacific Land and from Hyatt and Shilla Hotels. Big waves in July - beginning of September. Location: 14 km west from Seogwipo.
Hwasun Beach - this beach is located in a very beautiful place adjacent to a windy headland called "Dragon's head". Near the beach is the big port of Hwasun and a power station. Medium waves.

Hamo Beach - is not the most visited beach on Jeju and is fairly quiet beach; in calm weather you can see the southern most Korean islands: Kaphado and Marado. The beach is 15 min drive from Mosulpo Port.
Hyopje - is another very quiet beach with emerald water, excellent view on Byangdo Islet. Sometimes there is a strong current, which changes from the peak of low and high tide.
Kwakji - a good beach worth a visit.

Iho - beach with gray sand, not far from Jeju airport. Also attracts a lot of visitors at night time due to its well lit areas.

Samyang Beach - - located on the East side of Jeju City, is popular among Koreans who like to stay covered in warm black sand with their clothes on - it is said to be effective for rheumatism and obesity. This beach is more famous for its sand than swimming.

Hamdok - another exciting beach with emerald water, on the side of the jetty you can see a lot of fish while you are snorkeling. This beach also has the longest stretch of sand on Jeju and has several seafood restaurants nearby.

Kimnyong - good North beach, not far from Manjang Gul Caves.
Udo Island Beach - a real exotic beach with white coral sand - the only one in Korea. This beach is really unique. The ferry to Udo Island goes daily from Songsan port.
Shinyang - a beach located on a small peninsula with good sand on both sides. Popular among windsurfers.
Pyoson - the beach with a long line of sand, located right near the coastal road.
