Roe Deer Observation Center

Opened in Aug., 2008, the Roe Deer Observation Center is home to about 220 roe deers. The deer are able to roam about freely and facilities include an observation path for deer-watching. The center preserves and manages a variety of plants and animals as well as a 50ha forest.

Jeju Roe Deer is one of the smallest deers in size one might probably seen. The head is shaped like an inverted triangle and only the males have antlers. Roe deer have large ears but no preorbital glands or canine teeth. The tail is very short (2~3cm). The white spots on the rump are shaped like inverted triangles.

Antlers have 3 branches, one branch for a one-year old deer, three branches for two-year old deer and three branches for three-year old deer or older. Roe deer antlers will not divide into more than 3 branches even as the deer ages.

Roe deer have high metabolism and small stomachs and therefore require a high quantity of energy per weight. Roe deer feed frequently, 5 to 11 times a day. To maximize energy use, the deer select vegetables and plants that are easily digested. To get necessary energy, the deer have a habit of eating, resting, and repeating.

On some days of our tours we visit this interesting place where you can feed this cute deers.
